KASPER SCHMEICHEL is set to undergo a medical with Celtic as a deal to join the Double winners moves a step closer.
SunSport told yesterday how the Hoops had opened talks with the veteran Danish goalie.
Boss Brendan Rodgers worked with Schmeichel, 37, at Leicester and wants him as a replacement for the retired Joe Hart.
He played all of Denmark’s four games at the Euros but is a free agent after leaving Belgian side Anderlecht at the end of the season.
It’s thought an agreement to land him on a one-year contract with a further year’s option is almost finalised.
Premier League winner Schmeichel will now be put through tests at the start of the week.
Rodgers is keen to tie things up before the squad jet out to the States on Tuesday ahead of games with DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Celtic also remain in talks with Benfica about converting midfielder Paulo Bernardo’s loan spell into a permanent switch.
Hoops striker Oh Hyeon-gyu, meanwhile, looks set to finally complete an exit.
The South Korea international has struggled to make an impact following his switch to Scottish football in January 2023.

Oh arrived around the same time Giorgos Giakoumakis left the club.

The successful loan signing of Adam Idah in January pushed Oh further down the pecking order under Rodgers.
