  • Kick-off - Germany 1-0 Hungary

    46. Hungary overload the left flank as they kick-off the second half in Stuttgart.

If there's a clever plan for for the seven players that storm down that flank, we don't see it.

In other news, the teams are as they were with no half-time changes to report.

  • Live from the Stuttgart Arena

    Andy Dillon writes...

Not nearly as straightforward as Friday's romp against Scotland.

Everyone will be toasting Jamal Musiala's goal that separates the teams.

But Germany have veteran keeper Manuel Neuer to thank just as much, if not more.

Twice he made crucial saves against the game Hungarians. The first inside a minute after Germany cocked up their kick off routine and surrendered possession.

The other a stunning save from Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai - a  wickedly curling effort heading for the top corner.

  • First half facts and figures

The 7 shots Germany faced in the first half are their joint-most at the European Championship since being blitzed by 16 from Turkey in 2008.

  • Half-time - Germany 1-0 Hungary

The Germans lead once again as Danny Makkelie calls time on the first 45 minutes, but they have been made to work for this one.

The committed Hungarian performance is an improvement on their showing against Switzerland, and vastly superior to the display Scotland put in against the hosts.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

45+2. Sallai heads into the German net!

But it's not going to count, the linesman has his flag up on the far side!

The forward nodded home after Neuer had only managed to push out Orban's initial header from Szoboszlai's set-piece.

In fact, it was the defender Orban who was in the offside position with his first connection, Sallai's run was timed to perfection.

A let off for the Germans on the stroke of half-time.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    45. The fourth official indicates two minutes of stoppage time just as Szoboszlai jogs over to the left to deliver another free-kick deep into the German penalty area.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    43. Outside of the box, Musiala unleashes a fizzer into the side netting!

It fools half of the stadium, and BBC commentator Steve Wilson too, who is confused as to why the German isn't celebrating his second goal.

It needs to go the other side, Steve.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    41. Another German corner, another Kroos delivery, another attack that Hungary just about survive.

Wirtz does end up having an attempt at goal but it's well off target.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    39. Musiala is penalised after catching Orban at the end of a mazy run into the box.

In truth, it's six of one and half a dozen of the other, and the Hungarian centre-back can probably feel a little relieved with the decision.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    37. Germany ramp up the pressure as they chase a second goal before half-time.

Julian Nagelsmann's team force a series of corners that threaten and perhaps now Hungary are begging to suffer.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    35. Milos Kerkez reacts sharply to head a dangerous cross behind for a goal kick.

The Bournemouth defender has impressed at both ends of the pitch so far this afternoon.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    32. Despite trailing, Hungary have committed themselves well in the opening half hour.

The problem is Germany don't tend to let a lead slip.

Die Mannschaft haven't lost any of their last 12 European Championship matches in which they've scored the opening goal since a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic in 2004.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    30. At 21 years and 114 days, Jamal Musiala has become the youngest player to ever score in a nation's first two group stage games at a European Championship.

And to think, he could have been sitting on the England bench tomorrow night if life had panned out another way.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary - Rudiger yellow card

    28. Perhaps a little later than he should have, Antonio Rudiger goes into the book; he was pretty fortunate to get away on that earlier challenge on Kerkez.

Also, we're led to believe that Barnabas Varga was cautioned for his complaints that followed the Germany goal.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    26. Szoboszlai tries his luck with a curler from the free-kick, and almost finds the top corner!

Neuer keeps it out but doesn't hold it, and - following in - Bolla is unable to convert the rebound.

    Almost an instant equaliser.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    24. Hungary come roaring right back with Kirkez, who sets off on a scintillating run from deep.

The defender ends up winning a free-kick 30 yards from goal, after coming off second best following a robust challenge from Rudiger.

  • Germany 1-0 Hungary

    22. Germany are up and running once again!

Jamal Musiala has his second goal of these Championships, but there was more than a hint of controversy about it.

The forward flicks a ball through for Ilkay Gundogan, who looks to have missed the chance to strike with Willi Orban covering well.

However, a nudge in the back of the Hungary defender by the German captain sends him face first to the ground, allowing Gundogan to recapture the ball.

He lays it back into the path of Musiala, who thumps past Peter Gulacsi and into the net via the foot of a defender.

A VAR check takes place for a potential foul, but the video officials take little time in dismissing the Hungarian complaints.

  • Deadlock broken!

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    19. The Germans try to work the Hungary defence with a series of one-twos and triangles outside of the penalty area.

It almost unlocks an opening for Wirtz, but he doesn't quite have the legs to meet the return.

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    17. Before kick-off, Frank Lampard and Thomas Frank spoke about Germany would dominate possession and Hungary would have to suffer.

Well, they were right on the first point - the hosts have had 72% of the ball so far - but the Hungarians are far from suffering. They're playing well and enjoying it too.

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    15. This time it's Kimmich's turn to make an important block inside his own box.

The Bayern Munich man stands up to a smart turn and shot on the edge of the area from Sallai.

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    13. Hungary are giving as good as they get at the moment.

Where was this first half performance against the Swiss?

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    11. Havertz almost breaks the deadlock after wrestling free from Orban, his shot instinctively turned over by the strong hand of Gulacsi.

Germany threaten from the resulting corner too, Robert Andrich's shot on the volley blocked by Bolla.

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    9. It took just six minutes of this match for Hungary to register three times as many shots at the German goal as Scotland did in the entirety of Friday night's opening fixture.

No Scotland, no party, one shot at goal.

  • Germany 0-0 Hungary

    7. Szoboszlai's inswinger did hit the first man, but Hungary somehow kept the opportunity alive.

It's switched across the area to Bolla, whose shot is deflected behind for another corner.
