BIRMINGHAM CITY believe they have landed a coach in million after appointing Spurs' assistant head coach Chris Davies as their new manager.

Blues chiefs claim they ran the rule over 1,000 coaches and held talks with 40 potential contenders to replace Tony Mowbray, either directly or through their agents.

But after an exhaustive search they chose Ange Postecoglou's 39-year-old assistant, who has 15 years of experience of top level coaching, on a four-year-contract.

Davies, who has coached Spurs, Liverpool and Celtic alongside Brendan Rodgers and Postecoglou, said: “It is a club with an ambition that reflects my own, and a plan to make it a reality.

"I can’t wait to get started.

"It is such an exciting time to be at Blues.

Birmingham were relegated to League One after a disastrous 15-game run being managed by Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United lost nine of his 15 games in charge, a run which saw the Blues plummet from a promotion hunt to the relegation scrap.

Rooney has since been announced as the new manager of Plymouth, who stayed up in the Championship by the skin of their teeth.
