Arsenal draw up four-man shortlist in case Arsene Wenger decides to finally call it quits at the end of the season

ARSENAL have prepared a four-man shortlist of potential new bosses in case under-fire Arsene Wenger decides to call it quits.

The Frenchman's contract is up at the end of the season with Emirates chiefs keen to offer him a two-year extension.

But Wenger is waiting to see the Gunners' final league position before he signs - leading to concerns he may leave.

Andclaim Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel leads a list of targets.

Juventus chief  Massimiliano Allegri, Bayer Leverkusen's Roger Schmidt and Monaco tactician Leonardo Jardim are also believed to be in the frame.

Tuchel replaced Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund and has established himself among Europe's leading coaches.

And now the former Mainz chief is second favourite to take over the role at the north London club.

According to Sun Bets, Tuchel is 4/1 to be handed the reins, while Bournemouth chief Eddie Howe is still favourite at 5/2.

Juve boss Allegri has built on Antonio Conte's work while Schmidt and Jardim have both increased their clubs' profiles.

Wenger is still expected to be in the hot seat next season and the Arsenal board are just making sure they are prepared.

There is no desire to axe the veteran after two decades at the helm and the veteran is growing frustrated at growing calls for his head.

Wenger, 67, said: “When you work for 20 years for a club, everybody wants you out. That’s the modern world.

"But being in charge, being responsible, is a bit more serious than that.”
