Ronald Koeman initially named a 30-man provisional list of players but has now cut four players ahead of the tournament.

Maatsen misses out alongside Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Nick Olij.

Feyenoord's Quinten Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien, is also out after battling to recover from a thigh problem.

Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon is the fourth player omitted following the news he will miss the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Koeman has included seven Premier League players in his squad, with Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch all featuring.

However, fans have been left shocked by Maatsen's absence from the final squad list.

Reacting on social media, one supporter wrote: "No Timber and Maatsen it’s so over."

Another added: "Maatsen dropped but Wijnaldum still there."
