Massive 40-1 Epsom Derby outsider ‘improving all the time’ and tipped to give football superagent owner a ‘big run’
KING Of Steel was 66-1 when he finished a heartbreaking second in last year's Epsom Derby.
But owner Kia Joorabchian is quietly being tipped to land the big one with a 40-1 outsider this year who's 'improving all the time'.
Dallas Star was a shock 50-1 winner of the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last month.
Described as a 'lovely horse', the ground was heavy that day and this son of Cloth Of Stars, who placed twice in the Arc, ate it up to see off Aidan O'Brien's The Euphrates and Illinois.
Dallas Star hasn't been seen since but is among the 21 horses remaining in the Derby after the latest scratching stage.
Trainer Adrian Murray says the colt has been doing just fine at home and has the ability to outrun his odds - just like subsequent Group 1 hero King Of Steel did.
"The plan after the Ballysax was to go straight to Epsom.
"We’ve been very happy with him since that day.
"He’s improving all the time and we’re hoping for a big run."
Trainers and punters are having a tough time picking apart this year's Derby.
City Of Troy is the 7-4 fav but he has huge questions to answer after a disastrous run in the 2000 Guineas.
Tom Clover reckons his Chelmsford Class 5 winner Tabletalk has a chance and will be supplemented at a cost of £75,000.
While Deira Mile has been cut from 66-1 into just 25-1 after impressing on the Epsom gallops.
