It is understood Clarets owner Alan Pace held talks with Bayern chiefs over a compensation package on Wednesday.

Ex-Manchester City skipper Kompany, who is expected to take some of his Turf Moor staff with him, was rated as one of the hottest young bosses in the game after guiding Burnley to the top flight a year ago.

He was immediately rewarded with a new five-year contract to head off    interest from Tottenham and Chelsea.

But despite spending almost £100million on players last summer, Kompany’s side struggled to get to grips with life in the Prem.

They were eventually relegated with a week of the season to go.

Now, instead of preparing for trips to Oxford and Derby in the Championship, Kompany could be picking a line-up with England skipper Harry Kane in it.

Bayern have been looking for a new boss since deciding to part company with Thomas Tuchel.

However, the German giants have already been knocked back by Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick and Oliver Glasner.
