  • Goodbye!

We hop enjoyed our coverage of the FA Cup final.

It's Manchester United who were victorious, beating Pep Guardiola's double -chasing Manchester City side 2-1.

Goals from teenage wonderkids Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo show the future's bright at Old Trafford.

Who knows if it'll be Erik Ten Hag's last game in charge of the Red Devils.

But if it is, he goes out with a bang and trophy.

    Goodnight for now.

  • Ratcliffe refuses to comment

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE refused to back Erik ten Hag following Manchester United's FA Cup triumph.

The Red Devils beat rivals Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to lift the trophy for the first time since 2016.

As Ratcliffe walked through with INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, a reporter asked: "Is Erik staying?"

Ratcliffe turned to acknowledge the media member but did not answer the question.

He then turned his head away and continued to walk before heading out the room through a door.

  • Teenage kicks

Man Utd duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have emulated a Red Devils legend.

The pair both found the back of the net in the first half of today's FA Cup final between United and neighbours Man City as United lifted the trophy.

Both Garnacho and Mainoo are 19 years old, making them the first teenagers to net in an FA Cup final for 20 YEARS.

The last teen to score in the historic competition's final was Cristiano Ronaldo in 2004 - a fellow Man Utd star.

Ronaldo opened the scoring that day at the age of 19 as United went on to beat Millwall 3-0 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

  • Guardiola blames himself

Pep Guardiola blamed himself after Manchester City failed to land the Double Double.

The City boss admits he got his tactics completely wrong in the first half as Manchester United stormed into a two-goal lead before sealing a 2-1 triumph.

Guardiola said: “I think my game plan was not good.  Due to my decisions, we were not in the right positions to attack them. My mistake - my game plan was not good.

“Tactically, it was not good. I was not good today. You plan a game for different positions but it didn't work. Even with that, we arrived two or three times in the final third and made nothing from crosses.

“They made one goal from one shot and the goal from Mainoo and no more than that. When we play against United, we always have control.

“The second half was much much better.  We were more intense, in part because we were 2-0 down and had nothing to lose. It was a tight game.”

  • Captain and manager celebrate

Erik Ten Hag and Bruno Fernandes were the toast of Wembley for United fans.

The pair celebrated with the trophy in front of them.

However, both have been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Will they still be on our shores next season?

  • Ten Hag future

Ten Hag on whether this is his last game.

I don’t know, only thing I am doing is develop my team.

"This is, for me, a project. When I came in it was a mess, but we are better, but by far we are not where we want to be.

“I want to play the best football, dynamic football, but in the end you have to win games and win trophies.

“We had on opportunity to win one and we won the FA Cup."

As Wembley Way finally starts to clear, let's revisit the drama of a momentous day with Dave Kidd's match report of Manchester United's 2-1 FA Cup final triumph over rivals Manchester City.

Here, in what was likely to be his last match as Manchester United manager, was Erik ten Hag’s ‘football bloody hell!’ moment. In one of the greatest FA Cup final upsets of recent times, Manchester City blew their chance of an historic ‘double Double’ as first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo sunk Pep Guardiola’s champions.

  • Ten Hag follows Tuchel's footsteps

For only the second time as Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has found himself beaten in a cup final.

The Spanish coach had won 11 of 12 showpieces as City boss, having only previously come up short in the 2021 Champions League final with Chelsea.

Beaten 1-0 by Thomas Tuchel's Blues that night, Pep must now deal with today's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and Erik ten Hag.

He must be sick of the sight of Mason Mount.

  • Fernandes: Ten Hag deserves this

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes produced a captain's performance in the FA Cup final - and then afterwards declared that his manager deserved all of the success.

The Portuguese playmaker laid on a wonderful second goal for Kobbie Mainoo with the most innovative of passes, and then put in an inspirational defensive showing with his team under the cosh.

Asked afterwards about Erik ten Hag's future at the club, Fernandes revealed that he hoped he would stay beyond this season.

It is crucial for everyone. We know the manager is under so much scrutiny, he deserves this, also everyone in the backroom staff and the players, we all deserve this.

  • Ten Hag takes home trophy

On his ascent up the Wembley steps, Erik ten Hag received a handshake from Sir Jim Ratcliffe - but whether is was a thank you and goodbye handshake remains to be seen.

Whatever happens, the Dutch coach looks determined to treasure this success. After gazing lovingly at the trophy, he kisses the silverware and then lifts it towards the thousands of Manchester United fans inside Wembley as if to say it is for them.

  • United strike lucky with 13

If today was to be Erik ten Hag's last game in charge of Manchester United, then he has bowed out on a high by masterminding the club's 13th FA Cup success.

The win means the Red Devils are now just one behind Arsenal in the last of clubs who have lifted the famous old trophy on the most occasions.

  • Match stats from Wembley

Manchester United arguably saved their best performance for their 52nd and final game of the 2023-24 campaign.

Erik ten Hag's team had to soak up a lot of pressure, but came through a tough second half test to triumph.

  • Teenage kicks from Mainoo man

Manchester United have won the FA Cup - thanks to goals from two teenagers in Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

And at full time, 19-year-old Mainoo revealed that this match had been the only one he and his teammates had been thinking about, having watched last season's FA Cup Final from the stands.

It means absolutely everything. It's been a tough season with ups and downs, and this is the only thing we’ve had to look forward to. Last year I was watching in the stands.

  • Full time - Man City 1-2 Man Utd

Manchester United have won the FA Cup!

Andy Madley calls time following one last burst upfield from Rasmus Hojlund, and one half of Wembley explodes with delight.

Erik ten Hag runs on to the pitch in celebration, embraced with Lisandro Martinez, and then recaptures his composure.

A handshake and a hug with Pep Guardiola follows, but then the Dutchman can have his moment - his greatest as Manchester United manager, and most probably his last.

Manchester has been blue for a decade, but it will be painted red tonight!

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

90+6. City push forward but the ball won't stick for Alvarez on the far side.

It's Manchester United flags being flown around Wembley. It's Manchester United voices that can be heard.

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

90+4. United make two more changes, both as a means of reenforcing the defensive banks and eating up a few seconds.

Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount are the men called for as Scott McTominay and Alejandro head off.

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

90+2. Doku - who else? - wins Manchester City a corner.

City pack the box, ready for the inswinger from the left.

    It comes over...

...and Onana grasps it with both hands.

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

    90. There will be seven minutes of stoppage time to be played.

Seven minutes left for Manchester City to defend their FA Cup.

    Send for Paul Dickov.

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

    89. It's all Manchester City now as they pass it around outside the United box, looking for one vital opening.

It eventually falls at the feet of Manuel Akanji, who inexplicably slams it over from 25 yards out.

  • Man City 1-2 Man Utd

    87. With three minutes remaining, Manchester City have got one back!

And it's no surprise that it's Jeremy Doku who has given them late hope - albeit thanks to a huge helping hand from Andre Onana.

The City substitute bursts across the penalty area from the left and lets fly with a right-footer towards the bottom corner.

It should be saved by Onana diving to his right, but the goalkeeper is only able to ease the ball into the net at the near post.

In the stands, Sir Alex Ferguson looks at his watch. City couldn't, could they?

  • City have hope!

  • Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    85. Five. Minutes. To. Go.

  • Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    83. City are going nowhere. Literally. It's giving Lee Dixon time to discuss how scruffy Sofyan Amrabat is.

  • Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    81. At the other end, Fernandes whips a free-kick from a similar position straight into the body of Ortega.

There's no disappointment from those in red, however, as they rush back into their shape.

Less than ten minutes of normal time remain.

  • Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    79. Amrabat is - harshly - adjudged to have fouled Doku just outside of the penalty area.

The United players are furious with the decision which presents a free-kick to City in a very dangerous position.

Alvarez and Foden deliberate over the set-piece for an age before the latter slams a shot straight into the wall.
