There was a lot to like about the comeback run of Alan King’s four-year-old at Southwell last time. He travelled nicely and looked the winner until just getting tired in the closing stages. That was understandable after six months off and on debut for current connections. King chooses to step him up in trip here and he looks capable of finding more with the booking of champion jockey William Buick a big plus.
COVERT LEGEND (5.30 Ayr, nb)
Got no luck in running when beaten by four lengths at Thirsk at the weekend. He finished with a full tank after being blocked more than once. He is suited by this trip on fast ground and the handicapper has left his mark alone. This is a modest contest and he should be good enough to score.
PAINT THE TOWN RED (6.30 Kempton, treble)
Left his debut form behind when going close at Wolverhampton nine days ago. She ran on strongly over the five-furlong trip there so this longer distance should be ideal.
GOD’S OWN GETAWAY (4.08 Warwick, Lucky 15)
He has been in excellent form since switching to fences with a good debut win at Southwell followed by a tight Warwick second. Tristan Durrell takes off 3lb which gives him the edge.
