    63. Three changes for the Toon.

Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall throw on Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar for Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy and Kieran Trippier.

  • Man Utd 2-1 Newcastle - Casemiro yellow card

    61. Not the first time this season, Manchester United's Brazilian goes into the referee's book but not before some wonderful am-dram in response to a free-kick going against him.

The former Real Madrid star can't believe he's conceded a foul let alone been yellow carded for his challenge on Isak.

Spoiler: it should have been both.

  • Man Utd 2-1 Newcastle

    59. Eddie Howe is readying some changes on the touchline.

Anthony Gordon isn't moving too comfortably, and the Newcastle goalscorer could be about to make way.

  • Man Utd 2-1 Newcastle

    57. Manchester United lead again thanks to Amad Diallo's first Premier League goal!

Erik ten Hag's team have threatened from corners tonight, but the Dutch coach would not have expected to see his side score from one in this manner.

Bruno Fernandes' inswinger from the left is pretty terrible really, although Jacob Murphy's clearing header isn't much better.

The Newcastle man steers it across the area to Diallo 15 yards out, and he responds with a first time rocket that flies past Martin Dubravka and crashes into the net before the goalkeeper can even get down to dive.

What a hit, son! What. A. Hit.

  • Amad for it!

  • Man Utd 1-1 Newcastle

    55. It's such an open game now with spaces opening up at both ends of the pitch.

    It's there to be won.

  • Man Utd 1-1 Newcastle

    53. Newcastle should be in front!

The visitors seize upon a chance to counter two-on-one with goalscorer Gordon again leading the chance.

The forward feeds Isak, who appears to have a free route on goal until Amrabat appears with an expertly-executed sliding block.

The danger hasn't gone completely as the ball loops up and over Onana, but then Old Trafford is able to breathe a collective sigh of relief as it lands on top of the net.

  • Man Utd 1-1 Newcastle

    51. Bruno Fernandes tries to reignite his side.

The Portuguese ace tries to catch Martin Dubravka out with a snapshot from out wide on the left, but the Slovakian goalkeeper is too shrewd to be beaten from there.

  • Man Utd 1-1 Newcastle

    49. Four minutes into the second half and Newcastle are level - and it has been coming!

The Toon leap on a half-hearted thump forwards from Andre Onana and then go to work.

Bruno Guimaraes feeds Jacob Murphy on the right, who then delivers a wonderful teasing cross between goalkeeper and defence.

Reading the opportunity is Anthony Gordon, who slides in at the perfect moment, sticks a leg out, and diverts the ball beyond the Manchester United goalkeeper.

  • Equaliser!

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    48. Another opportunity for the visitors.

Gordon's path to goal is blocked by Casemiro, and following up, Anderson whips his effort hopelessly wide.

  • Kick-off - Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    46. There are no half-time changes to report at Old Trafford as the hosts get this game back underway.

However, just like the first half, its Newcastle who begin in the ascendancy.

Isak can't make room to register the second period's first attempt, but he tees up Guimaraes, whose sidefooter falls kindly for Onana.

  • First half facts and figures

Newcastle have bossed the ball, but Manchester United have the advantage.

  • Half-time - Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

Rob Jones' whistle signals the end of an entertaining and typically chaotic first 45 minutes at Old Trafford.

Manchester United lead courtesy of Kobbi Mainoo's opener, a goal laid on a plate for him by some dithering defending and Kieran Trippier's inability to understand the offside rule.

Newcastle have shown plenty of willingness in attack, but have somehow been unable to find a way through United's patched-up back-line.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    45. Three minutes of stoppage time are signalled by the fourth official at the end of the opening 45.

Diallo fancies his chances of doubling United's lead before the break, but his trickery inside the box is - eventually - dealt with by the Newcastle defence.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    43. Despite all of Newcastle's energy in the Manchester United half, Alexander Isak is struggling to impose himself.

The Swede has been reported to have been ill this week, and may well still be under the weather - which is probably still better than being under the Old Trafford roof.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    41. Trippier is desperately trying to make amends for his part in Manchester United's opener.

His latest corner finds Bruno Guimaraes unmarked, only for the Brazilian to head wide, and then his flick back into the danger area from Anthony Gordon's superb pass is somehow cleared to safety.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle - Anderson yellow card

    39. Newcastle are really pushing for an equaliser as the first half heads for its conclusion.

Meanwhile, Elliott Anderson is the first player to see yellow tonight for a mistimed challenge on Scott McTominay.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    37. More drama and controversy!

Gordon gets in behind and looks set to shoot inside the area, only to crash to the floor when challenge by Amrabat and Casemiro.

The Newcastle forward wants a penalty, but Rob Jones says no - and VAR Jarred Gillett agrees.

Replays show that the former Everton ace was definitely caught on the back of his heel by Amrabat's studs.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    35. Dan Burn equalises! No!

Somehow, the defender's downward nod at the back post has been cleared off the line by a sensational headed clearance from Casemiro!

The Newcastle players throw their arms up as if to celebrate the goal, and referee Rob Jones looks at his watch, but the Brazilian's defensive heroics keeps the home side's lead in tact.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    33. Newcastle go looking for an immediate response, and almost find one through the tenacious Longstaff, who pulls a shot across Onana and beyond the far post.

  • Man Utd 1-0 Newcastle

    31. Old Trafford celebrates a goal off the back of a defensive blunder - and remarkably it's not Manchester United's.

Amad Diallo tests the visitors' backline with a run and nudge into the area that completely evades Emil Krafth and co.

It allows the ball to run through to an unmarked Kobbie Mainoo, who is in absolutely acres of space and would be offside in any other match.

However, Kieran Trippier - back in the team and back in the spotlight - has dozed off completely, and plays the youngster on.

It gives Mainoo time to control, consider his options, and then roll the ball low past Martin Dubravka to score.

  • The opener!

  • Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    28. The first sight of Anthony Gordon in full flight tonight.

The former Everton man bursts down the wing and wins a corner off of Wan-Bissaka.

Newcastle pack the penalty area, but Isak is penalised for handball before anything of attacking note can occur.

  • Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    26. The best piece of football so far this evening.

Garnacho exchange passes with Fernandes, the second coming when the captain lifts an audacious return up and over the unwitting Newcastle defence.

Garnacho continues his run on the left to collect and darts into the area on the angle, but fails to beat Dubravka with his shot across goal.
