Mitchell supplements his time on the oche by working full-time as a farmer, while also running his own landscape gardening business.

But his greatest achievement came in 2015 when he won the BDO World Darts Championship.

Mitchell beat three-time champ Martin Adams 7-6 in a thriller.

And the incredible result landed him a £100,000 jackpot.

However, it wasn’t the only joy to come from his success.

Thanks to his underdog rise throughout that year’s tournament, Mitchell was invited for a cameo on BBC soap EastEnders.

He ended up in a non-speaking role, which featured him playing darts in the background at the Queen Vic pub.

Mitchell revealed he was asked after producers at the show, based an hour away from the BDO Worlds, rang up asking for someone to pop down and throw darts at a board.

Mitchell said: “It’s bizarre for a farmer to end up on EastEnders.

“The BDO got a call from EastEnders asking for someone to throw some darts on camera and I was only an hour away.

“I’ve done it a few times now. I’m in the green room with the other actors. Danny Dyer’s quite funny, they’re a nice bunch. It’s been fun.”

On life as a farmer, Mitchell added: “I never feel like I’ve done enough. It’s hard as you can have 24 hours of slicing down a big hedge, catching cattle and then throwing darts.

“But some nights I’m absolutely shattered and you’ve worked so hard there’s no point putting the darts in your hand.

“You can’t really feel it and darts is such a mental game as the last dart you throw is the one that sticks in your mind.”
