PETER EBDON believed Kyren Wilson would become world snooker champion after he met him aged just six years old.

Wilson fulfilled his lifelong ambition of winning at the Crucible on Monday when he defeated Jak Jones 18-14 in the final.

The 32-year-old roared with delight after potting the match-winning ball before bursting into tears of happiness.

But another world champion, Ebdon, has claimed he knew all along Wilson would achieve big things.

The pair met at a pool exhibition around 26 years ago where Ebdon advised Wilson to take up snooker after showing a lot of natural talent.

Ebdon wrote on social media: "Many years ago, I played a 6-year-old boy in a pool exhibition at Weetabix in Northants.

"I suggested to his parents that he should give snooker a try. He had ability and was naturally gifted. Huge congratulations to

Ebdon, 53, won the world title in 2002 and last featured in a ranking event final against Wilson, losing 4-2 in the Paul Hunter Classic.

He retired in 2020 due to chronic neck and spinal pain, and has since become a healer.

Having completed his training, he is now a certified “spiritual and energy healer” at the College of Healing in Malvern, Worcestershire.

On the college’s website, Ebdon says: “I offer healing, distant healing, negative energy clearing and protection when needed.”

In his own two-hour video monologue, he said: “As a trained healer, it’s wonderful for me to be able to use the universal energy life force energy for another person’s highest and greatest good.

“There’s nothing more I can do as a human being than channel that unconditional love. That means more to me than anything I ever achieved in my snooker career.”

He also practices yoga and Reiki, a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique.

Ebdon is also very health conscious and converted to veganism with his focus on eating as many organic fruit and vegetables as possible.

Part of his big fitness drive also seems him continue to swim a mile every day.
