Jak Jones ‘kills snooker’ by attempting ‘mission impossible’ leaving World Championship fans gasping at the Crucible

JAK JONES was accused of "killing snooker" after missing a shot SEVEN times during his world championship quarter-final against Stuart Bingham.

The Welsh qualifier, 30, has been one of the biggest stories at the Crucible this year after beating former world champion Judd Trump on his way to the last four.

And he led 2015 champion Bingham 8-7 heading into the final frame of the second session on Friday evening.

But a snooker left Jones utterly bamboozled in the 16th frame as he conceded 28 POINTS in fouls while trying to clip a red.

He was also penalised a further 21 points for other foul shots during the frame, taking Bingham's total without potting a ball to 49.

But the costly 28-point shot was the one that got social media talking.

Bingham, 47, had left his opponent tucked up behind the green, although Jones did have a number of reds to aim at.

But he was attempting to play the cue ball off one red in particular to avoid leaving Bingham an easy pot.

And such was the difficulty of the pot that he failed it on SEVEN occasions, before eventually getting it right.

Such was the length of the frame - more than 40 minutes by the time Bingham won it - that the BBC were forced to end their coverage prematurely as Richard Osman's House of Games got underway.

And snooker fans were less than impressed with Jones' style of play.

One said: "Jak Jones will kill snooker’s popularity with this boring style of play.";

Another added: "God, imagine a Selby vs Jak Jones match..."

A third replied: "This is Jak Jones style he plays snoozeker his name should be the boa constrictor. He just bores his opponents into submission."

While a fourth responded: "Jak Jones definitely plans his meals for a month."

Jones is playing his first world championship semi-final, with his best previous performance at the Crucible coming in 2023 when he lost to Mark Allen in the last eight.

Bingham is aiming for a second world title after shocking Ronnie O'Sullivan 13-10 in the quarters.
