Gary Moore joins forces with son Josh in dual trainers’ licence as incredible family racing dynasty rolls on
LEGENDARY trainer Gary Moore will be joined by son Josh on the training licence in a 'proud moment' for the Cisswood team.
Former jockey Josh was forced to retire from the saddle following a horror fall at Haydock in April 2022.
He suffered a broken leg, broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to his lower back from the incident, with complications due to a chest infection meaning he was in critical care for several weeks.
But he has recovered well and after working hard to complete his training modules, will join his father Gary on the licence.
Dual purpose trainer Gary recently saw son Jamie retire, while other son Ryan continues to dominate on the Flat as No1 rider for Aidan O'Brien.
Moore Snr saddled brilliant Welsh Grand National winner Nassalam late last year.
He hosed up by 34 lengths at Chepstow then got walloped by the handicapper for the Aintree National, finishing 18th at 50-1.
But he continues to bang in winners over both codes, bagging over £1.1million in prize money over jumps last season.
Gary Moore said: "It's a proud moment, he's worked hard for this and I do feel a sense of pride.
"I'm not ready to pack up myself so it makes sense this way - plus I won't have to go night racing all the time!"
Gary's son Jamie called it quits in February on medical grounds after a heavy fall at Lingfield last November.
He was advised that a comeback would be too risky, bringing down a distinguished career that saw him pick up seven Grade 1 races.
But Jamie has also been bitten by the training bug and although plans are far away, Jamie is also in the process of completing his training modules.
Moore added: "I can't see much changing from a yard perspective short term, but Josh - and eventually Jamie - might have other ideas!
"They know what I've done and have seen what other trainers do as well - hopefully they'll have learned from my mistakes."
