Transfer window lowdown: SunSport runs the rule over every Premier League club to see what we can expect
Find out who is being lined up before the market closes until the summer of Tuesday
THE transfer window slams shut on Tuesday as Premier League clubs race to finalise their dealings.
But what can you expect from your team, if anything, before the market closes until summer.
SunSport runs the rule over all the potential comings and goings as well as the business so far.
ARSENAL – MARK IRWIN
BUSINESS SO FAR
Teenage full-back Cohen Bramhall has been signed from non-League Hednesford Town for an initial fee of £40,000. Gedion Zelalem (VVV- Venlo), Jon Toral (Rangers) and Dan Crowley (Go Ahead Eagles) have all been loaned out for the rest of the season to gain first-team experience.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
There will be no more arrivals during this transfer window, although the door is still open for Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy to leave. Any summer spending will depend on the contract negotiations with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wojciech Szczesny and manager Arsene Wenger.
BOURNEMOUTH - MARK IRWIN
BUSINESS SO FAR
Chelsea’s decision to recall defender Nathan Ake from his loan was a setback for Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe. US international midfielder Emerson Hyndman has joined Scottish outfit Rangers on loan.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Howe hopes to complete a £12million deal for Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. He is set to sell Ivory Coast winger Max Gradel to Birmingham this week, although other clubs are interested. Glenn Murray’s Brighton loan will be made permanent for £3m. Howe is looking to sign Ake from Chelsea in the summer and also wants to secure loan star Jack Wilshere on a permanent basis from Arsenal.
BURNLEY – DAVID FACEY
BUSINESS SO FAR
Boss Sean Dyche is desperate to bring in a wide man to help maintain their surge towards Premier League safety but the only activity so far has seen prodigal son offered a contract until the end of the season. The sale of striker Lukas Jutkiewicz to Bimingham at the end of his loan spell has added another £1million to the coffers.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TEM PLANS
Dyche is likely to step up his interest in £12m-rated Norwich winger Robbie Brady after losing out to West Ham in the race to sign Robert Snodgrass. Clarets are also chasing Bournemouth’s versatile running man Dan Gosling, who is rated at about £7m.
CHELSEA - ANDREW DILLON
BUSINESS SO FAR
There is £60million in the bank from selling Oscar to Shanghai SIPG. Bournemouth want No 2 keeper Asmir Begovic, with Celtic’s Craig Gordon outlined as a replacement. There is a feeling that Chelsea will land a big-name midfielder but time is running out. Defender Branislav Ivanovic is poised to leave.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
There will be a clear-out in the summer. John Terry is unlikely to get a new contract, Cesc Fabregas is surplus to requirements and striker Diego Costa will be allowed to leave as boss Antonio Conte freshens up his squad. Rangers’ Scotland superkid Billy Gilmour, 16, is on Blues’ radar.
CRYSTAL PALACE – PAUL JIGGINS
BUSINESS SO FAR
Eagles boss Sam Allardyce is set to follow up his £12million capture of Leicester’s Jeffrey Schlupp with the £14m signing of Patrick van Aanholt from his former club Sunderland. He has also recalled hot prospect Sullay Kaikai from his loan at Brentford.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Big Sam wants several new faces before the window shuts and will enter the race for Watford striker Odion Ighalo. He has been linked with Norwich’s Robbie Brady but admitted he may have to look overseas to get value. They are also lining up a deal for Senegal skipper Kara Mbodji from Anderlecht. Winger Andros Townsend is linked with a loan move away from Selhurst Park.
EVERTON – KEN LAWRENCE
BUSINESS SO FAR
Manager Ronald Koeman has brought in Ademola Lookman (Charlton) for £11million, Morgan Schneiderlin (Man United) for £20m and Anton Donker (Wolfsburg) on loan. He has sent four players out on loan — Tom Cleverley (Watford), Oumar Niasse (Hull), Gethin Jones (Barnsley) and Gerard Deulofeu (AC Milan) and let Nathan Holland go on a free to West Ham.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
A deal could still be struck bringing Lamine Kone from Sunderland with Phil Jagielka going the other way. In the summer, Koeman will want another keeper and central defender but may be forced to sell striker Romelu Lukaku for £60m.
HULL CITY – DAVID COVERDALE
BUSINESS SO FAR:
Robert Snodgrass, Tigers’ best player, joined West Ham for £10.2million. Jake Livermore has gone to West Brom for £10m. Boss Marco Silva has made three loan signings — Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic, Everton striker Oumar Niasse and Olympiakos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui. Midfielder Evandro has joined from Porto for £600,000.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Hull still want a forward, a winger and two central midfielders before the window shuts, with ex-Manchester United star Nani in the frame. Silva must also make sure he hangs on to some of his other stars, with West Ham preparing a £9m bid for defender Harry Maguire.
LEICESTER – GRAEME BRYCE
BUSINESS SO FAR
Boss Claudio Ranieri has offloaded Jeffrey Schlupp and Luis Hernandez for about £14million and signed midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Genk for £18m.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
It is an open secret that Leicester want Middlesbrough’s unsettled forward Gaston Ramirez and the Uruguayan has tabled a transfer request. Ranieri has had a £7.5m bid for Anderlecht’s Senegal centre-back Kara Mbodji rejected. Hertha Berlin defender Sebastian Langkamp is also on their radar, while Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko is another option. Leonardo Ulloa could bring in more funds if a serious offer arrives.
LIVERPOOL – KEN LAWRENCE
BUSINESS SO FAR
Boss Jurgen Klopp will not be bringing in anyone, even though he said he might try to find a replacement for Sadio Mane who is at the African Nations Cup with Senegal. The Reds’ loan outgoings are Pedro Chirivella to Go Ahead Eagles and Lazar Markovic to Hull. Tiago Ilori has been sold to Reading for £3.75million.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Loris Karius was brought in to replace Simon Mignolet but a new keeper is a major target, with Joe Hart on the radar. Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, even at £50m, will be considered, while striker Daniel Sturridge could be sold this summer — and a replacement needed.
MANCHESTER CITY – MARTIN BLACKBURN
BUSINESS SO FAR
The £28million deal was done in the summer but Brazilian teen ace Gabriel Jesus arrived this month and made an eye-catching debut as a sub in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham last week. He gives boss Pep Guardiola more options going forward.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Guardiola said on Friday that he will not be bringing anyone else in during this window — but one may go, with Fabian Delph, Fernando, Kelechi Iheanacho and Tosin Adarabioyo among the possibilities. Most of the cash will go on the defence in the summer — full-backs on both sides and a centre-back. Then there’s the goalkeeping issue…
MANCHESTER UNITED – NEIL CUSTIS
BUSINESS SO FAR
It has been a case of United offloading buys made by former boss Louis van Gaal, with Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay being sold. Schneiderlin went to Everton for £20million while Depay moved to Lyon for up to £21.7m. Both had flopped at Old Trafford.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
The one thing United have been chasing is a striker, with nobody really helping out Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the scoring front. Atletico Madrid’s French international Antoine Griezmann is the main target but manager Jose Mourinho will probably have to wait until the summer to make his move.
MIDDLESBROUGH – DAVID COVERDALE
BUSINESS SO FAR
With Boro being the league’s lowest scorers, Aitor Karanka quickly moved to snap up two strikers. Rudy Gestede arrived from Aston Villa in a £6million deal, while Patrick Bamford returned to the Riverside in a £10m switch from Chelsea. David Nugent departed for Derby and winger Emilio Nsue joined Birmingham.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Karanka is trying to keep hold of Gaston Ramirez, who handed in a transfer request. Paris Saint-Germain winger Jese Rodriguez is a possible loan target. Stoke’s Bojan and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish are other options. In the summer, Karanka must decide whether to make Alvaro Negredo’s loan permanent.
SOUTHAMPTON – ANDREW DILLON
BUSINESS SO FAR
Claude Puel has lost his captain Jose Fonte in a surprise £8million deal to West Ham, who are just one place above them in tenth in the Premier League. It leaves a gap in the defence but rookie Jack Stephens has settled in well.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Boss Puel is a stickler for his squad rotation policy and that means he needs strength in depth. With Fonte gone and in-demand centre-half Virgil van Dijk now sidelined with an ankle problem, the club need to bolster the backline. Saints also require more strikers. Charlie Austin is out with a crocked shoulder, so Napoli’s Manola Gabbiadini is a £17.5m target.
STOKE CITY – GRAEME BRYCE
BUSINESS SO FAR
Mark Hughes ended his year-long pursuit of West Brom forward Saido Berahino last week in a £15million deal — it could prove to be a snip. Keeper Lee Grant made his loan from Derby permanent.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
Stoke have the option to sign Wilfried Bony but the Manchester City striker’s loan has not worked out. Bojan is unhappy at his lack of game time and could be on his way out if Middlesbrough follow up their interest. The Potters look to have lost out in the race for Zenit St Petersburg centre-back Nicolas Lombaerts. Sunderland have checked on Charlie Adam’s availability but the midfielder will stay.
SUNDERLAND – DAVID COVERDALE
BUSINESS SO FAR
The desperate Black Cats brought in Joleon Lescott, who was released by AEK Athens in November. Patrick van Aanholt forced through his £14million move to Crystal Palace by handing in a transfer request — but David Moyes was grateful for the cash as he was given precious little to spend.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM PLANS
A new left-back is Moyes’ priority after Van Aanholt’s exit. The club have approached Bordeaux about taking German Diego Contento on loan. Swansea’s Neil Taylor is another option. They need another striker with Victor Anichebe ruled out until April. Long-term plans are on hold until they know which division they will be in next term.
