ITV release trailer for dramatic Drive to Survive-style horse racing show Champion: Full Gallop ahead of Grand National

A BRAND NEW ITV documentary will take horse racing fans into the heart of the sport.

Champions: Full Gallop has been given full behind-the-scenes access into the world of competitive jump racing.

The documentary will no doubt be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Netflix's F1 documentary Drive to Survive which boosted the popularity of the sport worldwide.

The mega hit sparked similar documentaries looking at the worlds of cycling, golf and rugby in recent years.

Production company South Shore have been given full access to all racing areas from weighing rooms to the stables to capture the full level of drama in jump racing.

Viewers will be taken to some of the biggest fixtures on the calendar, including the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National.

The battle for champion jockey between Harry Cobden and Sean Bowen will be documented as well as the battle for champion trainer.

That will see a behind-scenes look at Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls' rivalry from start to finish for the 2023-24 season.

As part of the all-access production, viewers will be able to see the sport like never before, with helmet-mounted cameras giving spectators the point of view of the jockeys.

The documentary will also see viewers taken into the personal lives of the jockeys, trainers and owners behind the sport as they reveal how their racing obsession has an effect on their life.

The timing of the show couldn't be any better, with the iconic Grand National taking place this Saturday.

The main event will take place at 4pm, with Corach Rambler the favourite to repeat last year's Aintree victory.
