SAM Burgess hopes to hear the Warrington enclave cheering a win at Headingley, even though it will have a Leeds accent.

For his fiancée Lucy’s family is based in the city and will be in the stands as he heads to the side he cheered on as a boyhood fan.

When it comes to who they want to win, though, there is no question. Same goes for Australia-based mum Julie and brothers, Luke, Thomas and George.

Wolves boss Burgess said: “I love Headingley and there are a lot of good people at Leeds Rhinos, a lot of staff have helped me out with tickets as all Lucy’s family are Leeds.

“I think all the family now is in the Wire camp but I think they’re sitting towards the Leeds end, hopefully they all behave themselves!

“And we’re a very loyal family, so I’m sure my brothers will all be cheering for the Wire.

“I know my mum is and she’s the boss, even though they do have a soft spot for Leeds as Luke played there for a number of years and won a Grand Final there.”

Burgess stood on what is now the East Stand as he was growing up, roaring Leeds on and idolising hero Adrian Morley.

And he knows that just like him, a star of the future could be looking on from the terraces tonight.

He added: “It’s a great club and the stadium looks fantastic now. I’m personally looking forward to getting there.

“We were big Leeds fans growing up. We’d sit on the wall of the old scoreboard end and sit behind the sticks.

“Moz was my hero, he’s a legend but under the new rules he’d play one game and be out for six!

“It’s all a bit of a blur to me, you remember the atmosphere more. It was always a great place to go and I was rugby mad, so I’m sure there’s the next generation of players there watching.

“You’ll probably see the next batch of players who were fans there. It’s a great environment and I always enjoyed going as a kid – the stadium’s a bit fancier now, though.”
