“They have brought him in as a T20 specialist and he might have skills required for this format but I have faced many 90mph bowlers before.”

England skipper Eoin Morgan defended Mills, 24. He said: “He’s had a fantastic winter — the fitness he’s shown with his injury-prone past has been great and allowed him to play a lot of T20 cricket.

“Being able to bowl and to play consistently at the moment is a huge positive. To bowl at the pace he is is even better.”

Eoin Morgan saw his side lose out 2-1 in a three-game one-day series largely due to poor bowling

Mills became a T20 specialist after a back injury stopped him being able to bowl more than four overs in a match.

He can bowl close to 95mph as he showed last summer when he destroyed the stumps of West Indies star Chris Gayle in the T20 Blast.

And he is expected to take the new ball in the first T20.
