Lindel-off?

Manchester United ‘to make decision this week on whether to sign Benfica’s Victor Lindelof this month or in summer’

Old Trafford chief unlikely to make a new signing this month but is rumoured to still be in for Benfica centre-back

JOSE MOURINHO will decide if he should sign Victor Lindelof this week or wait until summer, according to reports.

The Benfica centre-back was linked with a January switch but Mourinho has since hinted there will be no new arrivals.

Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have formed an unlikely partnership at the heart of United's defence - contributing to a 16-game unbeaten run.

And Mourinho has Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and summer arrival Eric Bailly as backups.

Sweden international Lindelof, 22, is regarded as a bright talent but would cost over £40million.

Reports in Portugal suggest Benfica are close to extending the centre-back's contract and raising his release clause.

So far in January, United have offloaded Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin but have not made a splash.

Mourinho seems to have found a balance to his squad which may have tempted him not to pay over the odds.

United's next game is the League Cup semi-final second leg at Hull, with the visitors holding a two-goal advantage.

Wigan then head to Old Trafford on Sunday in an FA Cup fourth-round clash with United still competing on four fronts.
