Boozy Rod Stewart seems to grab the SFA president’s bum on live TV during Scottish Cup draw
The 72-year-old left fans wondering if he has a drink just before taking part as he joined Alan Stubbs in picking out the balls
BLEARY-eyed Sir Rod Stewart seems to grab the SFA president’s bum on live TV after giggling his way through a hilarious Scottish Cup draw.
The grinning rocker was clearly in good spirits as he hammed it up to pick out balls beside footie bigwig Alan McRae.
And he appeared to cheekily reach for the official under the table before blanking his offer of a handshake.
The Celtic superfan, 72, was invited to pick out teams after watching his side’s win over Albion Rovers.
But viewers were convinced he’d been making the most of the matchday hospitality before making the draw with ex-Hibs boss Alan Stubbs.
Social media was flooded with messages about the cup chaos.
Caroline Heenan tweeted: “Looks like a wee sneaky feel up? Avoid the handshake . . . go straight for the a**. Only Rod could pull that off.”
And Darren Campbell wrote: “Did Rod Stewart just feel the president of the SFA’s a*** live on TV?”
The Maggie May singer, dressed in a leopard print scarf, stole the show as he made the most of his role at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.
He raised his arm high in the air and swooped down into the pot before shouting the numbers into a camera.
Former Hoops defender Stubbs struggled to keep a straight face during the merry star’s comic antics.
And it looked like he’d been put off by the laughing rocker’s behaviour as he mixed up his numbers and announced Greenock Morton — instead of Inverness — as the team the Parkhead side would face in the fifth round.
Delighted footie players and fans loved Sir Rod’s performance.
Former Hearts player Ryan McGowan wrote: “Big Rod is steaming.”
St Mirren goalkeeper Jamie Langfield said: “Rod Stewart is blootered.”
And Pat Brown added: “Rod Stewart off his head — funniest cup draw ever.”
As the draw ended, giggling Rod gave a thumbs-up then appeared to reach out his hand for McRae’s backside.
The ex-Faces frontman then shouted: “Where are you?” after McRae handed back to show host David Tanner in the studio.
Tanner joked: “Rod, love the scarf and there’s a future for you as a bingo caller if the voice goes.”
Writing on Twitter afterwards, viewer Karl Cunliffe said: “Think it’s fair to say that Rod Stewart has been Sailing but probably in a sea of Whisky.”
Lee Morris added: “Rod Stewart making early claim for one of the TV highlights of the year. New career at Gala Bingo awaits #bringontheballs.”
Fans couldn’t believe what they was seeing, here are a few of the best tweets.
