has claimed that public backlash over stadium plans and the redevelopment of the iconic Gabba ground led to the enquiry.

It was suggested that there would be a mammoth £260million legal bill in compensation.

There would have also been a withdrawal of £1.5bilion of funding from the federal government to the Australian state.

It is said that they decided it would be "better value for taxpayers" and "Queensland's reputation".

New South Wales was the state that hosted the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has previously suggested that the Queensland government "give him a call" if they are not up to the task.

He said: "Our record is unmatched, and we have set a very high bar for Queensland to match.

It is also claimed that plans to build a new stadium at Victoria Park have been scrapped.

Queensland Premier Steven Miles released a statement on Monday regarding Victoria Park's future plans.

He said: "I was hopeful the review would find a better-value option.

"No one wants to see money spent on facilities that are only needed for four weeks.

"While the concept of a new stadium at Victoria Park has merit, the uncertainty around final cost means it is unfortunately not an option."
