ITV hosts burst out in laughter when asked if Antony proved why Manchester United wanted to sign him.

The Brazilian was bought by Erik ten Hag for £86million from Ajax but he has so far not lived up to the billing.

Although he helped his case by equalising in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, which United went onto emphatically win 4-3.

And after the game, ITV presenter Mark Pougatch asked: "Did we just see a little glimpse of why Erik ten Hag wanted him?"

Roy Keane and Ian Wright began to chuckle as Souness said: "Yeah, he got an important goal today.

"He got an important goal today but he's still not the answer for United."

Antony left Ajax with 24 goals in 82 games, many of those under Ten Hag.

But in United red he has managed just ten in 74 matches, leaving his future up in the air.

Last-gasp goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo - won the game in the final two in two minutes - saw United dramatically progress into the last four.

And Ten Hag was full of praise for Antony after the tie as the winger kickstarted United's fightback.

He told "It's very important for him. He struggled so much. First part, he was not himself, he's responsible for that. 

"And then he lost confidence, and now he has to fight back. We see through the last two weeks, he's returning.

"I see in training, I see the Antony I was used to work with at Ajax, and also used to work in the first weeks here.

"He has to fight back, and I'm sure he will do, because you've seen that goal.

"But not only in the goal. When he's going to left full-back position, he's defending very well. In certain systems, he can play from that side. 

"He's not a defending player, don't get me wrong, because we have seen, he can score goals."
