TEMPERS frayed as Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr took on rivals Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
And that led to play being halted after Ronaldo's team-mate was hit on the head with a water bottle.
The incident occurred after Ronaldo thought he had put his side 1-0 ahead.
Bottles rained down on the Al-Nassr team as they celebrated, with one catching Otavio on the head and bursting on impact.
The player immediately collapsed to the floor, and his team-mates pleaded with the crowd to stop launching projectiles.
It was a hostile atmosphere from the start at the King Abdullah Sports City, with fans chanting Messi's name at Ronaldo throughout.
