CILLIAN MURPHY may have won the Oscar for best actor, but he still thinks Roy Keane remains Cork's "number one".

The Hollywood star picked up the Academy Award for his stunning performance in Oppenheimer.

Christopher Nolan's movie dominated the Oscars, winning seven accolades on Sunday night for best film, actor, picture, director, supporting actor, cinematography and original score.

Murphy, 47, and Keane, 52, were both born in Cork, Ireland.

The Peaky Blinders actor was hilariously asked in the build-up to the Oscars if he is the biggest celebrity from his hometown.

Murphy replied: "I mean, to me, no one will be more famous than Roy Keane coming out of Cork.

"I'm a big Roy Keane fan, so he’s always number one for me."

The former midfielder began his career at Cork-based side Cobh Ramblers before moving to Nottingham Forest.

In 1993, he signed for Manchester United and went on to captain the Red Devils.

He lifted seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League before he left for Celtic after 13 glittering years at Old Trafford.

The now Sky Sports pundit is regarded as one of Ireland's greatest ever players, and was capped 67 times by his country.

Despite Murphy's love for Keane, the actor is supposedly a Liverpool fan after being invited to Anfield in 2020.
