GARY LINEKER revealed he received a text from Jose Mourinho following their mystery feud.

Lineker, 63, and Mourinho, 61, used to be very close ever since the Special One first arrived in the Premier League in 2004 when he took over at Chelsea.

The pair would constantly exchange texts and the Portuguese tactician would even praise the Match of the Day host's analysis on a rather regular basis.

However, their relationship turned sour in 2015 during the ex-Real Madrid manager's second stint with the Blues.

And it all started when Lineker was informed that Mourinho didn't want the England legend to present him with the Man of the Year award at the GQ Awards.

The Tottenham legend insists to this day that he has "no idea" why they fell out.

Lineker previously said: "They asked me to present the trophy and I said, 'Yes, I'll do that for Jose, of course'.

"Then about four days before the event, they got in touch and said, 'Jose has got in touch and he doesn't want you to present the trophy to him, he wants someone that's not in football'.

"I thought, 'Hmmm, that's a bit odd'. But I thought I'll go along to the event anyway and I went up to Jose and he kind of blanked me. I went, 'Are we okay, are we okay Jose?' He went, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah'. But he wasn't okay and he's never been okay since.

"I do not know to this day whether it was something I said on Match of the Day, I genuinely have no idea. I interviewed him subsequently and he was very cold.";

Mourinho continued to show frustration towards Lineker during his time as Manchester United manager.

During his two-year stint at Old Trafford, the ex-Tottenham boss sent then United CEO Ed Woodward an angry text asking him why he was talking to the England legend after a Champions League game.

Lineker has since moved on but the matter was brought up while he recorded an episode for the popular podcast show with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

The famous pundit told Richards, 35, that as he gets older he will have less friends in football.

Lineker explained: "You'll find Micah, as you get older, you'll have fewer and fewer mates to actually give a monkey's."

The Manchester City hero responded: "Speaking of mates, has Mourinho text you back or is he still not your mate?"

And Lineker revealed that despite their mysterious public fallout, Mourinho did send him a bizarre text.

Lineker replied: "He did text me back, he did. He said, 'Hugs'."
