‘Damaging to the game’ – Fans demand ‘red card to every single player’ involved in brutal time-wasting tactic
FANS have slammed the brutal time-wasting tactics used in a match in Brazil this weekend.
Sunday's Guanabara Cup match between Fluminense and Botafogo saw a unique approach to slowing the game down.
With Botafogo leading 3-2 in stoppage time, their players took matters into their own hands to run down the clock.
After one of their players went down injured just off the pitch, a team-mate dragged them back into the Fluminense penalty area.
Fluminense goalkeeper Felipe Alves was then seen rushing over and hauling them back over the touchline.
Players from both sides then surrounded the referee in protest at the antics.

Meanwhile, a Botafogo substitute helped their stricken team-mate back on to the pitch for a second time.
Eight minutes had already been added after a red card and penalty during the closing stages.
Fans were less than impressed with Botafogo's tactics on social media, though.
One supporter commented: "This should be a red card to every single player involved from the time-wasting team. Absolutely damaging to the game of football.

Another agreed, adding: "Two red cards for the Botafogo players is necessary."
A third fan also wrote: "This is another level of time wasting."
Others were less critical, however, with one saying: "An outstanding example of s***housery."
The time wasting saw further minutes added on by the officials, but Botafogo avoided late heart-break.
Instead, the visitors added a fourth goal in the 13 minute of additional time to seal a 4-2 victory.
