But it's Littler who is setting the world of darts alight now with the 17-year-old sensation on a meteoric rise since his World Championship final earlier this year.

The Nuke pocketed £200,000 from that event alone and has already earned himself a pretty penny with his time on the Premier League and World Series.

This weekend he will have a shot at adding the £110,000 up for grabs for the winner of the UK Open to his bulging wallet.

But ahead of the tournament darts icon Dennis Priestley has warned that Littler will need longevity at the top if he is to make more than Taylor over his career.

Speaking to , he said: "Whether Luke will earn as much as Phil, I'm not sure.

"Taylor must've won something like £12million. If Littler wants to earn that figure then he has to be at the top of his game for 15 years to match that."

That could scupper Littler's plans for an early retirement with the teen previously revealing he could move away from the cork after 10-15 years.

And Priestley has called for the PDC to help Littler manage his money if he really does want to give it up after a short stint at the top.

He said: "If Luke Littler really wants to retire from darts in 10-15 years, then looking after his money is exactly what he needs to be doing.

"It all depends on the people around him and how they'll invest his huge winnings.
