WAYNE ROONEY offered a cheeky grin when he was asked about taking over the Manchester United job.
Red Devils icon Rooney was making his debut as a pundit on BBC's FA Cup coverage of Man Utd's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
He had described the opportunity to appear on the show as "very special".
While on the show Rooney was asked about what the future held for him.
Host Gary Lineker asked Rooney: "What sort of job would you look for next?"
And before the 38-year-old could answer, Lineker said: "Manchester United."

Rooney reacted by smirking before saying: "Of course, that's the aim, that's where I want to get to.
"Obviously Man Utd, Everton all these big, big jobs you want to try and do.
"But there's a process and I've got to try and go through the steps of obviously getting myself back on track and back into management to make sure I'm in a position in the next 10 years where I can go into the big jobs."
Jermaine Jenas was then asked whether he expected Rooney to move into management after hanging up his boots.

Jenas said: "If I'm honest I didn't think he would go into management.
"But when I look back now and think about it, he was always a leader in the dressing room.
"So it's good to see him in the dugout and hopefully gets back out there soon."
Rooney was recently sacked by Birmingham after just two wins from 15 games.
