I won the darts World Cup now I’m close to reversing my diabetes after losing FOUR STONES in body transformation
JOHN HENDERSON’S World Seniors Championship win was thanks to salads after his remarkable FOUR-STONE weight loss.
The Huntly hurler has turned his life around since the pandemic with a strict diet and exercise routine.
It means that Hendo, 50, is now close to reversing diabetes and was a huge factor in his remarkable final day of action at the Circus Tavern, thanks to his extra stamina.
He revealed: “I’m close to reversing my diabetes. My blood sugars are at a good level now but for the next 12 months they want to keep me on the medication.
“I’ve just got to continue my exercise and diet. The weight is now coming off slower.
“But in total I’ve lost four stone since the pandemic. I was so bored so I was walking my partner Veronica to the bus and back every day.
“I’m now eating a lot healthier, I just stick to salads and have cut out the greasy food.
“I have got a lot more stamina and more energy during the long days.”
Hendo has endured a rollercoaster of fortunes after taking World Cup victory for Scotland in 2021 but then losing his PDC Tour Card. He failed to regain his card on the Challenge Tour, pipped on the final day by Owen Bates last November.
He admitted: “I never thought I'd have this feeling in darts again.

“When I won the World Cup with Peter Wright, I thought that was it for me. But this is right up there with it. Honestly, it means a hell of a lot to me.
“I'll tell you something, this is one of the best things I've ever won in my darts career.”
But Henderson revealed that he DOESN'T want to win back-to-back crowns at the Circus next year.
On defending the Seniors title, he added: “Ideally not. For obvious reasons, I want to be back on the ProTour. That's where I feel as though I should be and hopefully I can get there. But if it's not to be, I've got to come back.”
Henderson won 10 sets in a row to take the title on Sunday but admitted that he struggled in the early stages of the tournament.
He added: “The first couple of days my reach was dreadful. I knew there was still something extra left in the tank, but now I feel as though I've played my game and I did all the right things at the right time.”
