The British billionaire is already making changes at Old Trafford having already snatched Omar Berrada from Manchester City to be United’s new CEO.

They now want former England technical director and Brighton chief Dan Ashworth to be sporting director.

And we reported yesterday how Ashworth allegedly wants to move to Old Trafford from Newcastle.

The 52-year-old may have to serve a period of gardening leave if he is given permission by Newcastle to take up the role.

Ashworth would be tasked with rebuilding United’s scouting department.

And are reporting that he wanted Brighton's head of recruitment, Sam Jewell, to “head up the new structure”.

Only Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have forked out more on players since 2018 than the Red Devils, who only have one trophy to show for that massive outlay.

This update states that Jewell's “success at Brighton has led to him being favoured by Ashworth” as a potential appointment, with the latter having originally hired him at The Amex back in 2016.

Jewell also played a key role in the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo, who both arrived for low fees from South America but were sold for huge profits.

But United look set to face a huge fight to secure the services of Jewell.

claims that Chelsea have made an offer to Brighton for the talent.

Sam is the son of former Derby and Bradford boss Paul Jewell.

That would be their second raid for the Seagulls’ head of recruitment in just 16 months.

Jewell received his promotion to his current role when predecessor Paul Winstanley left for Stamford Bridge in 2022.
