And while watching on from the stands, Southgate was shown on the big screens inside Villa Park.

But after he was put on show for the fans to see, the stadium immediately rang out in boos.

The 53-year-old was quickly replaced by an Aston Villa badge by those in charge of the screens.

Fans couldn't believe what they had seen and heard with many taking to social media to voice their opinions.

One wrote: "Why is Southgate being booed though? Hands off the best coach in Europe."

While another asked: "Why is Southgate being booed at the Villa park?"

A third simply commented: "Ridiculous."

Southgate had plenty of talent to keep an eye on for during the clash with six Englishmen starting the match between Villa and Man Utd.
