Sagna in hot water

Manchester City star Bacary Sagna told to explain his ’10 against 12′ Instagram post by FA and could face charge

The Citizens right-back was left furious by Lee Mason's decision to show midfielder Fernandinho a red card in the 2-1 victory over Burnley

MANCHESTER CITY defender Bacary Sagna was left incensed after his side's 2-1 victory over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.

The French international was critical of referee Lee Mason who showed a red card to Fernandinho, and has been asked by the FA what he meant by his comments on Instagram.

With the score level at 0-0, the Brazilian midfielder was given a straight red card in the 32nd minute for a dangerous lunge on Burnley midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson, with Mason appearing to get the decision spot on.

His comments mean he could face punishment from England's governing body for criticising a match official, and the former Arsenal man has been given until 5pm on Friday to explain what he meant.

The FA rule E3 states: "Comments about match officials which imply bias, attack the officials' integrity' can be considered in breach of the rule."

Pep Guardiola's men didn't pay the price for playing the majority of the match with ten men, as goals from Gael Clichy and Sergio Aguero gave the Citizens a 2-0 lead before Ben Mee pulled one back for the Clarets.

For Fernandinho it was a third sending off in just six matches having been red carded in the 3-1 loss against Chelsea last month, and in the Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach.

He is set to serve a four-game ban meaning he will miss vital matches including the away fixture against Everton and the home game with Tottenham Hotspur.
