New Marseille majority shareholder Frank McCourt has vowed to back manager Rudi Garcia and heavily invest in the squad, and the signing of Schneiderlin will be seen as a real statement of intent.

The French side are not phased by the £24m price tag as United look to recoup the fee they shelled out to Southampton in 2015.

Meanwhile, Marseille feel they have a chance of bringing Dimitri Payet back to the Veldorome and are preparing an audacious £30m bid for the West Ham playmaker.

L'Equipe are reporting Garcia who managed Payet at Lille has been in regular contact with the 29-year-old suggesting his family are keen to return to the south of France.

The Hammers insist their star man who signed a new five-year contract last February is not for sale, and will do everything possible to keep Payet at the London stadium.
