Gerwyn Price crashes out of World Darts Championship in major boost to Luke Littler’s hopes of reaching final

Welshman produced his worst display at the PDC World Darts Championship in five years

GERWYN PRICE was embroiled in double trouble as he was dumped out of the PDC World Darts Championship – his worst display for five years.

The Welshman, 38, beat Brendan Dolan in a last-leg decider exactly three years ago today as he went on to lift Big Old Sid behind-closed-doors.

But on this anniversary date, Northern Ireland ace Dolan, 50, got his revenge back in dramatic style he prevailed 4-2 in the last 32.

Price, 38, has his issues with the crowd – though some Ally Pally fans did sing his name – but he only has himself to blame as he missed a whopping 23 attempts at the outer beds.

For the Iceman, this is the earliest round he has been eliminated from the Worlds since December 2018.

For the History Maker – who now plays either Scotsman Gary Anderson or Croatian Boris Krcmar on Saturday in round four – this is his best run now since the 2018 competition.

Dolan kept his temperament and composure throughout and took out checkouts of 144, 130 and 120 as he excelled himself against the odds against the fifth seed.

Not only is it the biggest win of his life on the biggest stage but he has blown open the second quarter of the main draw, which involves 16-year-old Boy Wonder Luke Littler.

The No.28 seed said: “I’m feeling great.

"I was thinking we might go to a last leg to reminisce what happened three years ago.

“Thank god, it didn’t, I don’t know if could have held it together.

“I got myself in a good place in that last set but Gezzy was unbelievable. Some of his finishing were class.

“I told myself positive things, like ‘it’s your throw’ and ‘you are still in the game’. To be fair, I won a few sets early on that maybe Gezzy should have got.”

Writing in a now-deleted Instagram post, Price said: “Absolutely gutted with the chances I gave away tonight, trying too hard and beating myself up.

“Just wanna say how much I appreciate the crowd that got behind me.

“Just couldn’t get a flow and Brendan took out every chance I gave him.

“Well done to him and I’ll hopefully learn from this. Gutted. But once again thank you.”
