Sky Sports forced to apologise as ‘stupid’ Scott Williams makes vile reference as darts ace hit with ‘nasty messages’

SKY SPORTS were forced to apologise after darts star Scott Williams' sickening reference in the wake of his third-round win over German Martin Schindler.

Englishman Williams, 33, claimed a 4-3 victory at Alexandra Palace on Wednesday.

But he then soured his victory with a vile comment aimed at the German fans in attendance.

He said: "I’ve never had the crowd on my side like that. I know we won two World Wars and one World Cup."

Following the interview, Sky presenter Anna Woolhouse apologised to viewers.

She said: "We just have to apologise if any of the language offended you there.

"Emotions were running high here this afternoon."

Williams later took to social media to address the remark as he offered an apology of his own.

He said: "In regards to what I said on stage earlier, it was a bit stupid!

"Love the people, the food and the venues!

He went on to add: ";Thanks for the messages everyone!

"A few nasty ones from some German fans, but I understand why! Absolutely nothing personal, just a bit of jeering and jesting with the crowd! I’m British and proud!!!! Last 16 baby!!!!"

SunSport understands the Darts Regulation Authority may decide to review the incident to see if he has brought the game into disrepute.
