DARTS star Dirk van Duijvenbode was left hilariously ducking and diving to try and avoid the notorious Ally Pally wasp in front of thousands of laughing fans.

However, it will not be the Dutchman’s defeat that most fans will remember from today’s outing at Alexandra Palace.

With the first game tied at one set apiece, Van Duijvenbode began wildly throwing his head about up on the oche after the bug appeared.

He continued to try and avoid the wasp as the crowd began to laugh at the scenes before he escaped to smile about the incident with his rival.

soon shared footage of him ducking and diving to avoid the stinger on stage and captioned it with: “DVD goes full Matrix mode to evade the Ally Pally wasp!”

And it did not take long for fans to hit social media themselves after witnessing the incident.

“Ally Pally wasp is one bad b*****d, nicely dodged by Dirk,” said one.

Another wrote: “Daily wasp flying around at the ally pally! More importantly what’s it doing out this time of year?”

A third commented: “I’m convinced they keep this wasp in something back stage and unleash it when they want.”

While a fourth said: “Ally Pally must be the only place in the UK to have wasps in December.”

This was the third time that a wasp has played a part in the action this year after one interrupted Luke Humphries during his game with Lee Evans.

It landed on Humphries' case during the very first leg of the match, but fortunately for the star, he did not fall victim to the insect as he managed to swat the creature away before it could cause any damage.

And then two days ago Ross Smith was stung THREE TIMES by a wasp but still had too much sting for Niels Zonneveld.
