Big swings in King George market as new favourite takes charge after Gordon Elliott triggers panic

Irish trainer's comments have sparked a plunge for a big rival

THE market for the King George has taken another huge swing with a new favourite now leading the way.

The flip-flopping for Kempton's Boxing Day feature was triggered by Gordon Elliott's comments on stable star Gerri Colombe.

Just last week his awesome 3m chaser was made 9-4 favourite for the big Christmas race.

But yesterday the Cullentra stables boss said plans for Gerri Colombe, a resolute galloper who stays all day, are still 'up in the air'.

And he hinted at concerns over the layour of the Surrey track, admitting: "Everyone says Kempton's too tight."

That has led to a surge of support for Willie Mullins' Allaho.

The dual Ryanair winner is now the 9-4 fav across the board, with some firms sticking him up at 5-2.

Paul Nicholls' defending champ Bravemansgame, who has failed to win in two runs this season, is the second fav at a best-price 11-4.

While Gerri Colombe has doubled in price out to as big as 4-1.

Nicky Henderson's Shishkin, who refused to race when last seen but was foot-perfect in a secret Kempton workout, is into 7s while Betfair Chase winner Royale Pagaille is 8s.

The Real Whacker, the only horse to beat Gerri Colombe, is all systems go for Kempton and can be backed at 10-1 while it's a break then to Hewick, who is as short as 20-1.

Three-time Grand National winner Elliott didn't rule Kempton out completely for his Gold Cup hope.

And he said a decision will definitely be made this week.

He told : "I'll make up my mind this week whether I send him or not.

"I just want to wait and see the ground and have a chat with owner Brian Acheson and the whole team to see what we do.

"I'm up in the air. Everyone says Kempton's too tight, while Leopardstown could be a hotter race.

"He worked well the other day and Jack Kennedy was very happy with him.

"He's in great form but we don't need to commit now."
