My darts superstar girlfriend wears my Rangers jerseys around the house – I wanted to wear mine to meet Prince William
CAMERON MENZIES is aiming to be king of the Palace but admits he is still gutted he couldn’t wear a Rangers kit to meet Prince William.
The Muirkirk ace goes into his second Paddy Power PDC World Championship facing Rusty-Jake Rodriguez at the Alexandra Palace on Friday.
Menzies, 34, will have his partner Fallon Sherrock by his side in London.
But he is still disappointed he was at a darts event and couldn’t be with her when she received her MBE last month at Windsor Castle.
He said: “I was given a Rangers key ring and it’s in the house. I wanted Fallon to give it to Prince William.
"I’m sure he doesn’t care about Rangers, he’s an Aston Villa fan.
“If I had gone to Windsor Castle with Fallon to get the MBE, I would have worn a Rangers top and kilt.
“She wears my old Rangers kits around the house, I think she finds them comfy.
"I have loads of them, that’s what I wear around the house. A few are a bit tight for me these days and she steals them!”
Menzies is convinced that the influence of Sherrock can help him succeed.
He even revealed that he wooed her with chicken at a KFC. Now they have a battle over who will cook the Christmas turkey!
He added: “I had known Fallon for years in darts and played doubles with her years ago.
“We met in an online league in Southampton. The rest is history as they say. It started off with a KFC!
“She needs me to force her to practice.
"We can throw for two hours together. It is definitely a good thing we push each other.
“Fallon has done more on the big stage than me. But we support each other. When you get beat you are down.
“We both know how the other feels after matches. She lets me stare into space and leaves me alone for five minutes and then I’m fine!
“It would be good to both still be in the Worlds after Christmas. I don’t know who will be cooking the turkey.
“Usually I’m up in Scotland with the family but this year I’ll be down in England with Fallon. Basically the first one knocked out of the Worlds has to do the turkey!”
Menzies was last year dubbed ‘the new Jocky Wilson’ after his eccentric performances.
He was waving his arms about on stage during his explosive win over Diogo Portela.
He knows he has to be calmer this time, adding: “To be compared to Jocky is amazing, a total legend, probably the biggest ever Scottish player along with Gary Anderson. It’s not a bad thing.
“When I’m up on that stage the heart is racing, nerves and stuff.
"But for some reason I’m not the same on the floor, with no crowd behind me.
“Some days though I’m fighting myself. In my head I’m fighting three throws ago. It’s just trying to keep the head clear and not get caught in the moment.”
Menzies will have a tough battle with Austrian Rodriguez but believes he will be hard to beat if he finds his top game.
He added: “We’ve played twice and won one each and both games have been 6-5 so it could be a close game again.
“I’ll be honest I was quite gutted to be on opening night. I was wanting to watch it for a few days and get into it.
“Hopefully the real me turns up and I’ll hit the doubles and a wee run that will take a good player to beat me.
“I’ve shown this year in spells that I’ve got that A game in me. So if that appears it will take someone pretty good to knock me out.
“I think I did better last year results-wise but this year I have played better but the results haven’t been great.

“I’ve had a couple of good runs. I’ve had a couple of bad games which is usual for me. I think my average is 94 and I’m pretty happy with that.
“The plan was to get to the Worlds and take it from there. Keep the tour card was the other plan, it’s not safe yet but there’s a good chance I will keep it. I’ve just got to build on it.
“I had issues with my hands at the Players Championship. It happens after I use certain power tools which vibrate. My hands were a bit numb-ish.
“I’ve now got gloves to wear and I’ll only use my left hand but before any darts tournaments I’ve stopped using he power tools altogether!

“I feared that it might be a Carpal tunnel syndrome problem but the docs said it was the tools I was using.”
