Ferdinand, 45, revealed he would often grunt but the rest of the squad did not mind as he performed well on the pitch.

The pundit told : "Carlos Tevez is a good example, he barely spoke anything other than muttering and grunting.

"But when he got out there (the pitch) he was a phenomenal player who we all appreciated and we didn't mind him not speaking the language."

Tevez, 39, won five trophies at United including the Champions League in his first season.

He also helped the Red Devils to two Premier League titles before his infamous switch to rivals Manchester City.

In an interview earlier this year Tevez revealed he refused to learn English as he had a "cultural problem" with the language, blaming England for the Falklands War, which his uncle fought in.

He said: "I spent seven years in England, but I did not adjust to the English culture.

"I did not like learning English because of my uncle and the culture shock that it caused me."
