Paul Scholes blast ‘rubbish’ and ‘lazy’ Man Utd after abject Newcastle loss as legend tears into two stars in particular
PAUL SCHOLES has claimed there are too many “lazy” players at “rubbish” Manchester United after watching them lose at Newcastle.
Erik ten Hag’s side suffered a sixth Premier League defeat of the campaign as Anthony Gordon secured the Magpies a 1-0 win on Saturday.
Newcastle had completely dominated the game until the winger’s 55th minute strike as United struggled to lay a glove on their top four rivals.
Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford offered little threat up top and it was only after Rasmus Hojlund and Antony came off the bench for them that Ten Hag’s men were able to mount a late flurry as they unsuccessfully searched for an equaliser.
And after watching the performance, United’s former legendary midfielder did not hold back in his assessment.
“Rubbish. They’re a poor football team at this minute,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“Those results they’ve had recently are misleading.
“Too many lazy players on the football team - you can’t get away with that.
“Going to these places, the first thing you do is work hard. You can see the joy that Newcastle are getting down both sides and feel sorry for the full backs.”
United have lost against every top half team they have played so far this term in the top-flight.

And it was two men in particular that Scholes was most disappointed in after their latest setback.
The 11-time Premier League title winner was fuming with Rashford’s sulking and body language after he was taken off, saying: “What is he surprised about? I don’t get it.
“What is he thinking he should still be on the pitch for? He was causing the team more harm than good.
“Marcus last year was brilliant and he’s got ability, there is no doubt about that. But when you decide to walk back like was, and he comes off and behaves like that, I do not think it’s good for the team.
“And he’s one of the most experienced players now. He’s a player that players look up to. Mainoo looks up to him. Garnacho looks up to him.”
Scholes then took aim at captain Bruno Fernandes, adding: “Bruno is another one. Look, he’s got fantastic ability, he can score a goal and make a goal, but I would love to be in the dressing room before a game and see what the manager is asking him to do.
“What position is he asking him to play? Where are you supposed to be on the football pitch?
“I see him as a No.10, it’s his best position as he can play a pass and he can get a goal.
“Where was he tonight? He was never in that position. I see him on the left, the right, sometimes he is the deepest Manchester United player, getting the goal off the goalkeeper.
“I don’t think that is healthy for the team. It upsets the formation and it upsets the way of playing.

“We don’t know, the manager might be telling him to do it, but it looks like he goes out and does what he wants on the field.”
United will now be desperate to return to winning ways when they face Chelsea on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
