Man Utd give Tyrell Malacia injury update and reveal defender needed surgery after suffering setback
MANCHESTER UNITED have suffered a fresh setback as Tyrell Malacia has been ruled out for the rest of the year.
The left-back has not played this season after undergoing surgery in the summer.
Malacia, 24, was expected back in training soon but has now been ruled out until the new year.
The Dutchman has to go under the knife again after suffering a setback during his rehabilitation.
The Red Devils have provided an update on the former Feyenoord man.
The club statement read: "Tyrell Malacia is on course to return to action early next year, as he recovers from a knee injury.

"The Dutch left-back has not played so far this season, following an operation over the summer.
"Unfortunately, he suffered a setback during his rehabilitation, which required further surgery.
"This has been successfully completed and Malacia is now back at Carrington and working hard to be fit early in the new year."
Malacia featured 39 times in his debut campaign across all competitions.

One benefit for Erik ten Hag is that Luke Shaw has made his return from injury.
The Englishman played against Everton and Galatasaray in the last week.
Shaw, 28, had missed three months after picking up a muscle injury at the end of August.
During his absence Sergio Reguilon has filled in at left-back.
