Ex-Man Utd ace claims Ten Hag made mistake getting rid of De Gea as he names player who could star for next 15 years
FORMER Manchester United player Lee Sharpe believes letting David de Gea leave was a big mistake.
The former No1 spent 12 years at Old Trafford and was named Player of the Year on four occasions.
But his replacement Andre Onana has not met expectations and instead made several errors which have resulted in goals conceded - including one of Galatasaray's goals in the 3-3 draw.
Sharpe believes releasing De Gea was a mistake as he was one of United's most consistent performers in his spell at Old Trafford.
He : “It’s certainly looking like an error now. It was a bit weird the way they shuffled De Gea the door – I know he made a couple of high-profile mistakes last season, but he was so consistent in the time that he was there.
“He would keep United in games and win them matches by himself, so it was a little bit disappointing the way they let him go.”

Sharpe was more positive when discussing Alejandro Garnacho, who has impressed in recent games with goals against Everton and Galatasaray.
He has tipped the youngster to become a superstar and expects him to play for the Red Devils for years to come.
Sharpe added: “Garnacho’s goal and recent performances are a huge positive moving forward. I think we’ve all seen his potential and what he’s capable of doing.
“He's an incredible talent and one of those players who you pay your money to see. He takes people on and is more of an old-fashioned winger – he’s very direct and can score goals, so hopefully he can maintain those performance levels.

“I think he’s going to be a sensation for Manchester United for the next 10 or 15 years to come.”
De Gea is still without a club and last month SunSport revealed United were considering a shock offer for the Spaniard.
