AP McCoy in 3am dash to get Graham Lee’s daughter to his bedside after jockey’s fall left him in intensive care
LEGENDARY jockey AP McCoy made a mad 3am dash to get Graham Lee's daughter to his bedside as he lay in intensive care.
20-time champion jockey McCoy drove to Amy to pick her up and take her to Newcastle Royal Infirmary in the middle of the night.
Amy's JustGiving fundraiser put together for her Grand National-winning dad and the Injured Jockeys Fund has now surpassed £100,000.
Trainer Gary Moore revealed the story in his exclusive Sun Racing column.
Moore said: "It's no surprise given how selfless he is, but AP McCoy went to pick up Graham's daughter Amy at 3am so she could be with him.
"Graham is a great lad and it was awful to hear the extent of the injuries he's suffered.
"He's a gent and I remember him riding a winner for me when I sent one up North to Redcar a few years ago.
"I'm sending all my best wishes to the family and I really hope to see him make a full recovery.
"My son Josh suffered awful injuries in a fall last year and I know all too well what his family are going through at the moment."
Lee underwent surgery on Tuesday to stabilise the fractures in his cervical spine and further protect his spinal cord.
He also had a tracheostomy to allow him to be more comfortable and improve communication.
Lee has recovered well from the surgery but the extent of his long term recovery remains uncertain.
McCoy became president of the Injured Jockeys Fund in 2016, a year after he brought the curtain down on his illustrious career.
The Injured Jockeys Fund provides support for jockeys past and present who are injured, unable to ride or generally in need.
