Man Utd ‘chasing £65m-rated goalkeeper’ in transfer window just three months after £47m Andre Onana signing

Stopper has suffered a shaky start to the season with several mistakes costing United points

MANCHESTER UNITED are still tracking a goalkeeper despite the signing of Andre Onana this summer, Portuguese reports say.

Manager Erik ten Hag opted against extending David de Gea's contract and instead signed Onana for £47million from Inter Milan.

But the Cameroonian has suffered a shaky start to the season with several mistakes costing United points.

Onana was signed over Porto's Diogo Costa, but according to A Bola in Portugal, United are still interested in the stopper.

It is believed Costa - capped 18 times for Portugal - has a release clause of £65million.

United scout is also said to have watched the keeper in action against Vizela last month.

Onana's fortunes looked to have changed in United's 1-0 Champions League win against Copenhagen last month.

The stopper saved a late penalty to secure the win and was hailed by Ten Hag, who said: “He showed personality.

“He knows the levels and what his skills are and he hadn’t matched his skills and could do better but it was a very good performance on Saturday and tonight. He is a very good penalty saver.”

But since that win in Europe, United have suffered consecutive 3-0 losses with Onana conceding six.

First they were humbled at home in the Manchester derby and were then dumped out of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford by Newcastle.

It mounts pressure on Ten Hag, who said after the cup defeat: “So I am a fighter and I know it is not always going to go up and we have a lot of setbacks this season.

“But also you have to deal with it and that is never an excuse. I have said that before.

"I know when there are setbacks but even then you have to get results. Sunday [and] tonight was far from that so we have to do things right at a certain level, the minimum level to win games.”
