Former Man Utd rival recommends perfect Ten Hag replacement as calls to sack him intensify after Newcastle nightmare
FORMER Liverpool star Dietmar Hamman believes Manchester United should appoint Julian Nagelsmann if they sack Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils boss is under pressure following a run of eight defeats in 15 games, with the club reportedly exploring alternatives to the Dutchman.
Hamann thinks his compatriot Nagelsmann would be a suitable candidate - the German has previously been linked to Tottenham and Chelsea.
At 36 years old he is still young but has experience managing a big club, having left Bayern Munich in March after two years at the club.
Hamann pointed to the German as a candidate for the United job, telling : "Nagelsmaan has done well and he did good things at Bayern.
"He's an up-and-coming manager who has shown he can win titles, even if was unfortunate in the Champions League.

"He'd certainly be somebody you'd have a good feeling about. He knows how to play football, but it depends if he was backed.
"You need to back your manager for two or three seasons, and I don't know if that's the case at United.
"There's a lot of chaos at Old Trafford. However, I don't think Julian would be a bad choice."
However, the Red Devils would have to wait to hire Nagelsmann after he was appointed Germany manager in September.

He signed a short-term deal until July 31, 2024 - meaning he will oversee Germany's Euro 2024 campaign.
Naglesmann is excited to be managing at the "special" tournament, which takes place on home soil.
He said: "We have a European Championship in our own country. This is something special - something that happens once every few decades.
"I subordinate everything to this fact of having a great tournament in a great country. I have a great desire to take on this challenge.
"The performance in Dortmund was the beginning. We're going to be a tight-knit bunch in the coming year."
