Mbeumo, 24, has set up the first goal of the game as he crossed the ball for Ethan Pinnock to head home.

And in the 90th minute he must have thought that he grabbed himself a goal.

Ian Maatsen was muscled off the ball by Neal Maupay, who fired in a dangerous cross for Mbeumo.

The forward got a good connection on the ball and it looked like it had flown into the bottom corner.

However, after closer inspection, the ball had actually gone wide and rebounded into the side netting, giving an optical illusion that it had hit the back of the net.

But fans were still left confused as they took to social media.

One bewildered fan Tweeted: "I thought Mbeumo scored lol."

A second commented: "How did Mbeumo not score that?!"

A quick counter-attack following a Chelsea corner saw goalkeeper Robert Sanchez stranded.

Maupay carried the ball up files before unselfishly passing to Mbeumo to tap home.

The game finished 2-0 to the Bees with the three points helping them leapfrog the Blues into 10th place in the Premier League.
