Chelsea stars Palmer and Sterling row over who will take penalty vs Arsenal before Fernandez is forced to step in

COLE PALMER wrestled to keep the ball from Raheem Sterling before scoring the penalty that gave Chelsea the lead over Arsenal in their 2-2 draw.

The Blues were awarded the spot kick when Mykhailo Mudryk's header hit the outstretched arm of Gunners defender William Saliba.

But there was confusion over who was going to take it.

Sterling tried to take the ball from Palmer's hands, with the former Manchester City pair seemingly arguing over the matter.

Eventually, Enzo Fernandez came over and made it clear that Palmer - who scored a penalty against Burnley - would be the taker.

And it proved to be a good decision as the England U21 international sent David Raya the wrong way to give Chelsea the lead.

Palmer's strike means he has now scored in back-to-back games for his new club.

The 21-year-old, who joined for £42.5million from Man City in the summer, bagged a penalty and an assist in a 4-1 win over Burnley before the international break.

Prior to that, he also assisted Nicolas Jackson's winner in their 1-0 victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup at the end of September.

Meanwhile, Sterling produced a sensational performance against Burnley earlier this month as he too scored and assisted in the match.

Yet despite his superb displays, he found himself left out of Gareth Southgate's England squad yet again for the games against Australia and Italy.

Sterling came into the Arsenal clash with three goals and one assist in nine games this season.

He played off the right in the London derby on Saturday, with Mudryk on the left and Palmer through the middle.

But Chelsea threw away a 2-0 lead as Arsenal came roaring back to salvage a point through goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.
