Rotherham ground staff said that while the pitch remained playable, staff were left with "no choice but to postpone the game".

The Millers said in a : "It goes without saying we are obviously disappointed for fans due to attend."

The fixture had been due to kick off at 8pm on Friday but was postponed after the club met with representatives from the Safety Advisory Group and the EFL which took place shortly after 4:30pm on Friday.

Don Street, the main high road leading to the stadium, has been closed off to the public - leading the club to make the call in the interest of fan safety.

In the statement, the club also apologised to fans at home who were set to watch the game from home due to the match being picked by Sky Sports for broadcast this evening.

Ipswich will be frustrated to have their momentum disrupted after a flying start to the season under boss Kieran McKenna.

Victory tonight would have put them one point ahead of leaders Leicester City at the top of the Championship, with Leicester playing Swansea tomorrow at 3pm.

But they will have to wait until Wednesday now to restart after the international break when they travel to Bristol City in a 7:45pm kick-off.
