report that the Red Devils are amongst the clubs tracking the forward as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Newcastle, Roma and AC Milan are also in the hunt for Guirassy, the report adds.

  • Case closed

Kobbie Mainoo should keep Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat out of Manchester United's starting XI, according to former Red Lee Sharpe.

The 18-year-old has been superb for the Red Devils in their last two games.

And Sharpe told 888sport after the Champions League game: "He looks like a natural in the team. He slots in and doesn’t panic in situations.

"There were a couple of players around him last night, but he kept the ball and displayed some nice touches, he just never gets flustered.

"He always looks composed and knows what’s around him – he comes across as an experienced first-teamer, but he’s only been in the team for two minutes.

“I’ve got high expectations for him – hopefully the manager and the club can protect him and play him at the right times.

"When you’re bringing off your new signing, Sofyan Amrabat, who you’ve paid millions for, to replace him with a young lad, it says a lot about his ability.

"You’ve also got Casemiro not playing at the moment, and I think Mainoo can keep each of them out of the team – I reckon he’s better than both of them.”

  • Own goal-ie

Lee Sharpe believes letting David de Gea leave was a big mistake.

The former No1 spent 12 years at Old Trafford and was named Player of the Year on four occasions.

But his replacement Andre Onana has not met expectations and instead made several errors which have resulted in goals conceded - including one of Galatasaray's goals in the 3-3 draw.

Sharpe believes releasing De Gea was a mistake as he was one of United's most consistent performers in his spell at Old Trafford.

He 888Sport: “It’s certainly looking like an error now. It was a bit weird the way they shuffled De Gea the door – I know he made a couple of high-profile mistakes last season, but he was so consistent in the time that he was there.

“He would keep United in games and win them matches by himself, so it was a little bit disappointing the way they let him go.”

  • Blade runner

Ex-United striker Josh King is expected to leave Fenerbahce in January, according to reports.

King, 31, joined the Turkish side in July 2022 and has since scored 11 goals in 38 appearances.

However, his game time this season has been limited due to injury.

Ismail Kartal is now prepared to offer the striker a mutual contract termination.

Should he leave Fenerbahce in January, King will become a free agent.

And according to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Sheffield United are monitoring him.

  • Keeper's fear

Andre Onana could pull out of the African Cup of Nations to protect his Manchester United number one spot.

Onana was expected to be missing in the New Year having returned to the international fold with Cameroon.

But with Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayinider waiting in the wings having signed for the United in the summer, Onana fears he might lose his place long term.

Onana, 27, surprised United boss Erik Ten Hag by deciding to return to international football this season having retired after walking out of Cameroon’s World Cup camp a year ago.

He has since patched up his differences with coach Rigobert Song and made three appearances helping them to qualify for the AFCON Finals.

They run from January 13 to February 11 and could mean Onana missing up to six games.

  • Red alert

Man Utd are interested in Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy, according to reports.

The striker is enjoying a remarkable season in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals in ten matches so far.

Only Bayern Munich's Harry Kane has netted more than him in Europe's top five leagues with 22 domestically.

His form comes as a surprise to most after he was on target just 11 times last season.

Guirassy, 27, is now on the radar of several top clubs and Man Utd are one of those keen.

They have supposedly made contact with Stuttgart regarding his availability.

Foot Mercato report that Guirassy is open to leaving Stuttgart should a tempting offer come in.

  • Devil in the detail

Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans to make several changes to Manchester United's recruitment team, it's understood.

The Ineos chief is set to take over football operations at the club once his 25 per cent stake is ratified.

There have already been changes at board level with CEO Richard Arnold set to depart - Jean-Claude Blanc is expected to arrive as his replacement.

Ineos chief Sir Dave Brailsford is set for a strategic role at United, according to the Daily Mail - he previously worked in cycling before heading football operations at Nice, the Ligue 1 club owned by Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe is reportedly considering appointing two senior recruitment executives, placing John Murtough's future at the club under doubt.

Former Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards is being eyed along with Paul Michell, who has impressed with his work at Tottenham, Southampton and most recently Monaco.

  • Pushed back

Man Utd's travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday night.

Both sides were in Champions League action in midweek and will be keen to get over their respective disappointments.

The Red Devils gave up a two-goal lead TWICE against Galatasaray in a dramatic 3-3 draw on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Newcastle were on the end of a controversial VAR decision, which led to Kylian Mbappe stealing a point from the penalty spot for PSG in the 98th minute.

Man Utd are the form side in the Premier League, dropping just two points from the last six games, while the Magpies will be hoping to build on their 4-1 romping against Chelsea in their last top-flight outing.

  • Jack's the lad

Erik ten Hag has been left “wowed” by Darren Fletcher’s son Jack, Sun Sport can reveal.

The 16-year-old midfielder was promoted by United’s Dutch manager to train with the first team ahead of their clash with Galatasaray.

And sources close to the club say Ten Hag is keen to “fast-track” Fletcher’s progress.

Our source said: “Erik Ten Hag has been watching Jack closely for several months now and has been really impressed. He thinks he has huge potential which is why he decided to promote him to train with the first team last week.

“Ten Hag is now working with his staff to put a plan in place to try and develop and fast-track Jack’s progress.

“He is likely to go out on loan next season but Erik believes, in the long term, he has a massive future at United.

"He’s been wowed by his attitude, and his maturity and - thinks he is the latest in an exciting crop of talent to be coming through at United.”

  • Just not VAR

Mauro Icardi's disallowed goal against Manchester United may have stood if it was scored in the Premier League.

So United could have lost to Galatasaray as Icardi's strike would have levelled the match at 2-2 just before half-time.

Instead Erik ten Hag's side went 3-1 up before being pegged back, as VAR backed up the linesman's call that Icardi was offside.

Uefa use a semi-automated system to judge offside in the Champions League and Icardi was a fraction beyond the last defender Harry Maguire.

But in the Premier League no such system is in place, with VAR officials instead reliant on drawing lines to determine offside.

Icardi was offside by the tightest of margins with only his shoulder beyond Maguire, with the semi-automated system drawing a line right where Maguire's arm started.

  • Couldn’t get it Don

Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek has revealed a transfer exit during the summer collapsed “at the last minute”.

Van de Beek was close to joining Real Sociedad but talks broke down forcing him to stay at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old has played just 21 minutes of action for Erik ten Hag’s side this season.

Van De Beek told Diario AS: “I was close to going to Real Sociedad, but at the last minute, the clubs could not reach an agreement.”

  • Playing for keeps

Erik ten Hag Ten Hag made it clear that Altay Bayindir will get his chance soon.

Ten Hag said: “We are pleased with the goalkeeping group. They have to push each other.

“We are very pleased with Altay who is doing very well, he just has to be patient.

“If he works well and continues his progress, he will get his chance and will have to take it.”

  • Red alert

Man Utd's transfer plans have suffered a blow as PSG are interested in Youssouf Fofana, according to reports.

The 24-year-old could leave Monaco with just 18 months left on his current deal.

United are keen to bolster their midfield options in the transfer window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his chiefs are identifying targets.

Reports from CaughtOffside claim that Fofana is on their radar.

However, a move could prove difficult with Monaco reluctant to sell in January and PSG like the look of him.

Fofana fits the Parisians profile of signing French-born stars.

Should he leave Fenerbahce in January, King will become a free agent.

  • Not to be Ruud

Ruud Gullit believes Erik ten Hag will have to start asking serious questions of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana in the near future.

Speaking on beIN Sports, the ex-midfielder said: "He knows these are horrible mistakes, he knows that. He’s going to talk in private with his goalkeeper and ask what the hell are you doing, what is going on?

"Maybe he has to make a decision, you never know. The problem is you want to give your goalkeeper, as much as you can, confidence.

"Not immediately after a mistake get out. With goalkeepers it is hard. He was in a difficult situation.

"He saved them once but I feel for him I know he’s a good goalkeeper but he cost them a lot of games."
