BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016: Why is Andy Murray not at SPOTY?

RED-HOT favourite Andy Murray has revealed why he is not at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The 2013 and 2015 SPOTY winner says his dad's marriage in America must come first.

The world No1 said: "I would have {gone if my Dad wasn’t getting married.

"I would have gone to Miami a bit earlier and then would have come back for it, but because I am not able to go to Miami until I am, I am only going to get in two weeks’ training.

"I can’t really afford to come back and lose a few days."

Scot Murray, 29, has enjoyed surely the greatest year of his career so far.

He won Wimbledon for the second time, retained his Olympic titles and displaced long-term tennis top dog Novak Djokovic with victory in the ATP World Tour finals last month.
